Shakshuka.

No Thyme to Waste

I’m sharing dinner with you tonight. My shakshuka, aka: eggs poached in tomato. A brief history of shakshuka from Wikipedia, because I’m quite frankly too lazy to tell you about it. You can also read more from a previous recipe/post I wrote many months ago, here!

As I’ve said before I’m a huge advocate for simple meals that are quick to prepare, healthful, yet not lacking in flavor. Just because you’re tired at the end of the day and don’t feel like labouring over dinner, does not mean you have to eat boring or bland food.

According to the Natural Resources Defence Council – 40% of food is wasted in the United States alone. Learning to cook dishes from different cuisines and getting creative using up leftovers kicking around in your fridge: are the two best ways to take your dinners up a notch while reducing waste.

Eat well, waste less.

Let’s Talk about….

King Sir

I am lonely. So am I. 然後阿飛正傳式茶舞.

Time to Left (左膠時間)

This programme may contain offensive and abrasive wordings or scenes. Parental guidance is advised.

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jul/22/tony-blair-right-labour-past?INTCMP=sfl

Andy Burnham –

TYPE ONE –

Labour as a term has, not only been not vaild, but never been such relevant.

Let’s talk about…blur

Again?

can we stop now? Can we stop now? Please?

i did not hear him sing this song last night, as I left at 10:00. Ie the show’s official end time when mr Damon sang his “to the end". The song I love while he sang, to be frank, badly last night.

As a blur fan halfway through, experience last night was not in particular enjoyable. I have to confess I don’t know how to sing three or four songs in the set list, including song 2 (how can you?). And I must say they were not particularly in form, except Alex James, on fire whole night through.

But it was a rare moment recently I was really proud as a hong kish when mr Damon said “we come to sing about your city". “Magic whip is such a long story…but …it’s really inspired by your city" I am a fan of Brit music halfway through and I have never heard of another Brit group making something out of my city.

haha. My city, a city I am so used to say your city when I am talking about anything about it. That’s why I said I was really proud of myself last night.

it was weird that I sensed mr Damon sadness when he did Pyongyang. I don’t know why. I haven’t listened to this song in detail enough. In fact I haven’t listened to the album as a whole enough. The album was serious and sincere, while loose and a bit oldie. Trying to replicate the time when they we’re thirties while giving some compromise for Damon’s weird taste. You can sense it clearly in Pyongyang (thought I was a spaceman too). Pyongyang, I may need to take a look at the lyrics to decipher it.

i am quite sure battery leg won’t be played. Walking down the hallway in convention centre,  hearing this is a low leaking from the hall at the top, I said to my self, not enough. Not heavy enough. Not thoughtful enough. I like blur. But I like mr Damon and mr coxon apart much more. And I may have to wait for the coming of gorillaz.

The single-speed State Bicycle review, and a philosophical meditation

You make me think of my 13′ Macbook Pro…My wife nags every time she uses the mouse and Mac Office (incompatibility with MS version at office). I should have bought Dell Laptop 15′ for 60% of the price!

The Story's Story

I told a friend that I’d sold my old bike and bought a State bike and he replied, “Single-geared bikes look pretty, but gears are amazing. I’ve never ridden a fixie. What’s the deal?"

In status terms they became trendy maybe ten years ago when hipsters started adopting them as a fashion statement (one definition of a hipster might be, “A person (or group) who does something deliberately inefficient and old-fashioned to make a statement"). In some ways single-speed bikes are less practical than gear bikes, since they obviously only one speed, and in that sense they may be like having a record collection instead of ten thousand songs on a computer. But in other ways they’re actually better adapted to some environments: they’re lighter (none of those heavy, metal gears); at a given price point one gets better components; they require much less maintenance (there is no need for…

Catching early light in the clouds

Christopher Martin Photography

Prairie dawn over Springbank - © Christopher Martin-8717-2

The perch on the hill I photographed the Aurora Borealis and lightning storm from a couple of weeks ago is now officially one of my favourite prairie viewpoints.  On the weekend, I left my home in the dark and headed northeast towards the growing dawn.  With a short drive I returned back to the same spot and found the view to be beautiful.

Prairie Dawn - © Christopher Martin-8716

A heavy cloud stretched overhead towards the horizon with a break which allowed the first rays of pink sunlight to skip along the underside.  The fast rising sun quickly changed the light from pink to gold as it pushed through less of the atmosphere.

Thoughts on the TV show “UnREAL"

The Story's Story

* UnREAL is shockingly good until the end of the sixth episode, at which point it devolves, and it’s shockingly good despite the network on which it airs. How’d I find it? I can’t remember. One could read Arts & Entertainments in conjunction with the show.

* In highbrow literary culture “creative nonfiction" and “memoir" are terms that map to “I can make shit up if it works for the story, while being loosely true." By now readers don’t expect “creative nonfiction" and “memoir" to actually be true, so making some shit up is okay because of the wink-wink situation between reader and writer. “Reality" TV does the same thing, with producers and people on the show acting like joint authors. The stories are about truthiness, not fact. Joseph Heath describes the pervasiveness of truthiness and why that’s bad in Enlightenment 2.0: Restoring sanity to our politics, our economy…
